About
Anna Mensing is a German photographer and visual artist. She lives and works in the Northern Rivers, NSW, Australia.
Coming from documentary photography studies, her work primarily focuses on telling stories of trauma and healing. She finds connections between the act of photographing and the internal processes of the people she accompanies. Her approach centers around the therapeutic aspect of photographic documentation and the strong potential in using images as a tool for reflection and trauma-related work.
Anna creates her own paper and uses an oil-infusion print technique to produce unique images. Learning from local artist Cindy from Mullumbimby in Australia, she experiments with ways to transfer black-and-white photographs onto handmade paper using natural oils. Each print is the result of slowing down in a fast-paced world of visual imagery and digitalisation.
Anna Mensing also works as a photo editor, absolved an internship at stern magazine, worked for Agentur Focus - Die Fotograf*innen as Deputy Agency Manager and later as a picture editor and photojournalist for Landeszeitung Lüneburg.
